About this book
The War Drama of the Eagles is by Edward Fraser and includes a chapter titled “Napoleon Adopts the Eagle of Caesar.” A chapter says Napoleon Bonaparte became Emperor, “by Divine Will and the Constitution of the French Republic”, on Friday, May 18, 1804. Three weeks later, the text says, it was publicly announced in the Moniteur that the Eagle had been adopted as the heraldic cognisance of the new régime in France.
One scene is set on a Wednesday morning in Paris, where it snowed and rained at the same time, salvos of artillery were fired soon after dawn, and all Paris turned out early. At ten o’clock the cannon again thundered out an Imperial salute of a hundred and one guns. In a battle passage the third squadron of the Dragoons deals with the third square, riding boldly at it and breaking in with deadly results, and how the Eagle of the 105th was saved is not on record.
