About this book

Ting-a-ling is a book by Frank R. Stockton, gratefully dedicated to the memory of all good giants, dwarfs, and fairies. The tale tells of a fine old king in a palace surrounded by orange groves, whose whole affection was given to his only child, the Princess Aufalia. The King, pointing to the Prince, says to bind him, and adds merrily that they will treat him royally.

Finding no lock on the door of his room, the Prince props a wide and very heavy stool over it, so that if anyone pushed the door open the stool would fall down. A beautiful Princess says that, as the daughter of a water-princess and a land-prince, she could go where she pleased, either on shore or in the water. When the disconsolate people saw the Giant approaching, they set up a great shout of joy and rushed to meet him, calling out that the Kyrofatalapynx had broken loose.
