About this book
Traditions of the Tinguian: A Study in Philippine Folk-Lore is by Fay-Cooper Cole. The preface says the myths were collected by the writer during a stay of sixteen months with the Tinguian, a pagan tribe of northwestern Luzon in the Philippines. The contents list tales of the mythical period, ritualistic and explanatory tales, fables and abstracts.
The text says the guests are not neglected, so far as regards food, for feasting and dancing occupy a considerable portion of their time, and mentions the ceremonial dance da-eng, though the tadek seems to be the one in special favor. A story in the text tells how Aponītolau cut the betel-nut and cut his first finger of his left hand, and the blood went up in the air. One abstract tells of a pregnant woman who expresses desire for the fruit of the bolnay tree, and her husband asks what it is she wishes.
