Twenty Years of Balkan Tangle is by M. E. Durham. The preface calls the account a tale of small straws, carefully collected, and says it tells of the plots and counterplots lived through in many years of Balkan travel.
The text tells of an imposter who appeared suddenly in Montenegro and said he was Peter III of Russia. The author writes of being asked to call on the Governor of Serajevo, who spoke German and told the author it was the wrong time of year to travel in Bosnia. General Phillips is reported making a strong appeal to cease this foolish warfare and accept Wied as the choice of Europe.
