About this book
Vivian Grey regards the approaching season of his departure to Oxford with disgust, his mind filled with feelings that make the prospect unwelcome. Vivian's conversation with his father reveals his feelings but conceals his actual views, while he dwells on the misery of being thrown back in life. Mr. Grey warns Vivian against trying to become a great man in a hurry, saying that one such attempt in ten thousand may succeed.
Vivian asks whether Von Konigstein could clear himself, in a conversation marked by Von Konigstein's anguish. A note signed SYBILLA urges its reader to take the private road and warns against using the other road.
