About this book
Weeds Used in Medicine describes several species of docks as possessing medicinal properties, distinguishing the kinds generally collected from other species recognized as having value in medicine. The yellow-rooted water dock frequents swampy and wet places and the banks of streams, with a stout stem sometimes reaching a height of 6 feet.
The account of burdock describes a large, fleshy taproot with a dark exterior and a pale, spongy centre, and directs that the roots be washed, split lengthwise and carefully dried. The discussion of jimson weed records occasional cases of children being poisoned through eating its seeds and taking its flowers into their mouths.
