About this book
William, the Fourth is by Richmal Crompton, and a list headed By the Same Author names, among others, Just William, More William and William Again. A caption says William was trapped, trapped in a huge and horrible drawing-room, by a huge and horrible woman. William's conscience is called a curious organ that needed a great deal to rouse it and, when roused, demanded immediate action.
William took one of his white rats round to Miss Amelia Blake, who screamed and got on to the table, and he even offered her his baby tortoise, but she refused it. William says Equal to them, and argues that we're human beings too, that we ought to be equal, and asks why we shouldn't be equal. Joan, though fluffy and curled and exquisitely dressed herself, adored William's roughness and untidiness.
