About this book
With Haig on the Somme is by D. H. Parry. The contents list names chapters such as Off to the Front, His First Time under Fire and In the Enemy Trenches, among others.
A letter read aloud in the text says we are going to make a simultaneous advance, we and the French on our right. One scene on a winding stairway has Rogerson reach the last step as a revolver cracks out and he throws up his arms. One scene has the whole line of sandbags become alive with other white figures pouring in one crashing volley at point-blank range. The Reedshires vault over the wet ditch with a full-throated British cheer.
