About this book

Uncle Sam's Boys as Sergeants; or, Handling Their First Real Commands is an illustrated book by H. Irving Hancock, whose title page lists other Uncle Sam's Boys titles by him. The contents include chapters called Tipped Off by Wig-Wag, Lieutenant Algy Joins the Army, The Squad Room Turns Cold and Racking the New Sergeant.

In one passage Hal Overton and Corporal Noll talk about guard duty and about starting wig-wag lessons with Sergeant Hupner, with an hour left before the next drill. Noll is glad to be getting into telegraphy. Another passage describes a display of cavalry riding, with men standing on bareback horses and mock casualties carried to the rear while onlookers gasp. In a further passage Lieutenant Dick Prescott talks of his love of the service and of suspicions against a loyal man that had no base.
