About this book
Wonder Stories: The Best Myths for Boys and Girls is a book of myths by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey. The contents list gives chapter titles such as How the Myths Began, What Prometheus Did with a Bit of Clay and How Orion Found His Sight, among others.
Apollo is commanded to descend to the earth and offer his services as herdsman to Admetus, the king of Thessaly. Apollo plays the first lute every day, according to the text, which describes an empty tortoise-shell with some cords stretched tightly across it. Ulysses accompanied King Menelaus into the city on the plains of Troy to demand the return of Helen, and King Priam refused. A story headed How a Wooden Horse Won a City says the siege of Troy lasted ten years.
