About this book

The subtitle calls the book A Terran Empire story. Ranger James Medart stands beside Captain Jean Willis' control chair aboard the Empress Lindner, enjoying the peaceful trip back to Terra after a surprisingly uneventful cruise.

Medart goes through corridors that look like a standard Imperial Navy ship's, and says he can accept, though he doesn't understand, that he was brought there by magic. A Traiti in the command chair stands, showing open relief as he scrutinizes Ariel. A woman tells Medart, whom she addresses as Prince, that his pulled muscles responded well to a simple healing spell, and asks him to join her and Warleader Ryan for breakfast. Medart asks for Last Gift, and Ryan answers Granted and says And may the gods accept you as one of themselves.
