Ann Wilson

Ann Wilson is a singer, songwriter, and co-leader of the rock band Heart, where her voice became closely associated with songs including Magic Man, Barracuda, and Alone. Kicking And Dreaming recounts that career jointly with her sister Nancy Wilson and music biographer Charles R. Cross. Released through It Books during 2012, the memoir follows the sisters from a musical household and early performances to their work as writers, instrumentalists, and leaders of Heart. Its alternating perspectives make collaboration part of the book's design, allowing both sisters to describe the pressures and rewards of sustaining a band across several decades. Cross brought his experience as a Seattle music historian and biographer to the project. The shared memoir credits Ann and Nancy as authors and Cross as their collaborator, connecting Ann Wilson's individual voice with the family partnership, creative work, and long professional history that shaped Heart's music.
