Le prince de Galles, qui fait partie du bataillon d'officiers formé par les élèves de l'Université d'Oxford, a, pour la première fois, porté cette semaine l'uniforme kaki de l'armée territoriale anglaise: samedi dernier, il quittait Oxford, avec de nombreux étudiants, «dans un compartiment de troisième classe», disent les journaux de Londres, et gagnait Mitchet Camp, près d'Aldershot, où il devait accomplir une courte période d'instruction.
Avec la même simplicité et la même bonne grâce qui ont laissé en France un souvenir si charmant, le prince de Galles partagea familièrement la vie de ses camarades, s'associant aux travaux du camp, prenant sa part des corvées, et marchant, dans le rang, comme un simple «private». Le premier jour de manoeuvres lui réserva des émotions inattendues: envoyé en reconnaissance avec un autre éclaireur, il fut surpris par une dizaine de cyclistes du parti adverse, qui le firent prisonnier en criant: «Haut les mains». Quelques instants après, il était heureusement délivré par les siens, accourus en nombre...
