Alexandra Shulman led British Vogue for twenty-five years and is a journalist, novelist, and memoirist. Her editorial career included work at Tatler, The Sunday Telegraph, and GQ, giving her fiction a detailed awareness of magazines, fashion, and professional London. Can We Still Be Friends, published by Fig Tree in 2012, was her first novel. Opening in summer 1983, it follows Sal, Annie, and Kendra as their long friendship meets changing careers, relationships, ambitions, and expectations. The book treats the transition out of university as a social and emotional test rather than a simple nostalgic period piece. Shulman later published the novel The Parrots and nonfiction including Inside Vogue, Clothes...and Other Things That Matter, and The Year of the Cat.
