Tartarin On The Alps continues the adventures of the boastful Tartarin of Tarascon, sending him into the Swiss mountains in a comic novel originally published in French as Tartarin sur les Alpes in 1885. The book occupies the second position in Daudet's Tartarin sequence, between Tartarin of Tarascon and Port Tarascon. Together, these two works show contrasting sides of his range: compact stories rooted in landscape and local voices, and an expansive mock-heroic journey built around a memorable recurring character. Daudet's lively treatment of pride, fear, performance, and provincial identity helped both works travel widely through later translations and illustrated editions.
