Mental Immunity argues that bad ideas spread the way infections do and that a mind can be inoculated against them, and it builds the case from the philosophy of reasoning rather than from psychology alone. Norman taught philosophy at Carnegie Mellon and founded a project on the subject. The obvious objection is that the metaphor lets anybody dismiss a disagreement as infection, and he meets it by putting the test on the quality of the reasoning instead of on the conclusion reached.
