B P Walter

The Dinner Guest opens with a man dead at his own dinner table and all three surviving people there insisting they did it. Walter worked in bookselling and then in publishing publicity in London before writing, and his novels are set among wealthy west London families whose money makes the lying easier and the consequences softer. He writes about British class more directly than the domestic thriller shelf usually allows itself to, which is what separates the books from their neighbours.
