Bruce Ross-Larson
Edit Yourself is a short manual for people who write at work and will never have an editor, arranged as a list of things to cut and a list of words that are almost always the wrong ones. Ross-Larson spent decades editing for the World Bank and founded a communications firm in Washington, so his examples come from institutional prose, which is the hardest kind to repair because nobody in the building thinks it is broken. Several further short volumes continue the same job.
