Emily Skrutskie
Bonds of Brass (2020) starts with a military cadet pulling his roommate clear of an attack and learning that the boy he has saved is heir to the empire that swallowed his own homeworld. Emily Skrutskie carried that bind through Oaths of Legacy (2021) and Vows of Empire (2022), completing the Bloodright trilogy for Del Rey and selling it plainly as queer space opera. Born in Massachusetts and raised in Virginia, Skrutskie studied film, computer science and game design at Cornell, graduating in performing and media arts, and now lives in Los Angeles. Her earlier novels were written for young adults: The Abyss Surrounds Us (2016), its sequel The Edge of the Abyss, and Hullmetal Girls (2018).
