Three decades of Silicon Valley work sit behind Evangelos Simoudis's writing on driverless cars. He took a bachelor's in electrical engineering at Caltech in 1983 and a PhD in computer science at Brandeis, researched data mining at IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, and rose to vice president of business intelligence solutions at IBM. He then ran the eCRM company Customer Analytics as president and chief executive. His investing began at Apax Partners and continued at Trident Capital, which made him a managing director in 2007. In 2016 he co-founded Synapse Partners, backing early-stage enterprise artificial intelligence startups and advising large corporations. The Big Data Opportunity in Our Driverless Future, published in 2017, argues that the data produced inside and around autonomous, connected and electrified vehicles, once machine intelligence gets at it, will decide where value lands in the next generation of transport.
