George Carlin
George Carlin was a stand-up comedian, actor, social critic, and author whose close attention to language carried naturally from live performance into prose. Napalm and Silly Putty gathers short observations, longer essays, questions, and comic lists shaped by the same skeptical voice heard in his recorded work. Grand Central Publishing classifies the book as nonfiction humor and published it in 2001. Carlin's biography on his official archive states that it became a number-one New York Times bestseller in its second week, while his reading earned his fourth Grammy Award. His career also encompassed twenty-three comedy albums, fourteen HBO specials, film roles, and the 2008 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
