Author: Henry Milner Rideout

Henry Milner Rideout was an American novelist and short-story writer who graduated from Harvard in 1899 and later taught English there. The Far Cry appeared from Duffield and Company in 1916. Fern Seed appeared from the same publisher in book form in 1921 and was serialized in The Saturday Evening Post that April. Rideout’s fiction frequently drew on travel, seafaring, and working lives, subjects he gathered during journeys in Asia and from his New England background. Contemporary bibliographic records place both novels among a career that also included stories for The Atlantic Monthly and several literary textbooks.
