John Einarson
John Einarson is a Winnipeg music historian, broadcaster, educator, and author whose books document Canadian rock and the musicians connected to it. The title Neil Young refers to Neil Young: Don't Be Denied, his 1992 Quarry Press biography of Young's formative Canadian years. The book follows the musician through Winnipeg, Toronto, and Los Angeles, concentrating on early bands, family roots, and the path toward Buffalo Springfield. Einarson built the account from interviews with former bandmates, friends, and Young himself, giving the biography a close regional perspective. His wider bibliography includes studies of the Guess Who, Buffalo Springfield, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and country rock. He has also contributed to music publications and created documentary work for television and radio. Neil Young fits that larger project: Einarson treats popular music as lived local history, connecting individual careers to the clubs, collaborators, and scenes that made later success possible.
