Lovina Eicher brings Old Order Amish cooking and daily family life to readers through cookbooks and a syndicated newspaper column. She learned to cook beside her mother, Elizabeth Coblentz, then took over Coblentz's long-running column in 2002 and continued it as Lovina's Amish Kitchen. Herald Press published Eicher's first solo cookbook, The Essential Amish Cookbook, in 2017. Its hundred-plus recipes cover breads, main dishes, sides, preserves, and desserts, supported by kitchen tips and step-by-step photographs. The selection favors everyday ingredients and dishes used at home, church gatherings, and weddings. Eicher had previously collaborated on several Amish cookbooks, but this volume gave her own practical voice and family recipes a single-author collection.
