Lee drummed for Mötley Crüe from 1981, built the rotating drum kit that turned upside down mid-set, and is among the four voices in The Dirt, an oral history the band told to Neil Strauss with almost nothing left out. That includes the parts that do not flatter him: he pleaded no contest in 1998 to spousal battery against his then wife Pamela Anderson and served six months in county jail. He has been married four times, has recorded solo and with other projects, and the book gets read as a warning by roughly as many people as read it as an advertisement.
