Zenas Osborne

Zenas Osborne was a nineteenth-century Free Methodist minister who shaped Born of the Spirit; or, Gems from the Book of Life as a religious memoir and record of conversion. Published in 1888, the book moves through personal testimony, church experience, sermons, hymns, and reflections on Christian holiness. Its autobiographical episodes are therefore joined to a pastoral purpose: Osborne uses remembered events to explain the beliefs and practices that directed his ministry. An introduction by M. N. Downing frames the volume as the work of a veteran preacher addressing fellow believers. The book preserves both an individual spiritual history and a period voice from the Free Methodist movement.
