About this book
Under the Tree is a book of poems by Elizabeth Madox Roberts. The acknowledgments say certain of these poems have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly and The University Record (the University of Chicago), among others.
In The Sky, a speaker sees a shadow go across the ground and looks up to see the sky. In The Cornfield, a speaker climbs a little crooked tree and can look down on the field and see the corn and how it grows. In Mumps, a speaker could not swallow anything at all because of the mumps. In August Night, a speaker lies on the grass and sees how many stars there are.
