A Personal Narrative of a Journey Through Norway, Part of Sweden, and the Islands and States of Denmark is an early travel book by Henry David Inglis (1795-1835), first published in 1829 under his pen name Derwent Conway. Inglis was among the first British writers to publish a detailed account of Scandinavian travel for English readers, at a time when northern Europe was still little known outside the region. The narrative records the author’s journey by carriage, boat, and foot through Norwegian fjords, Swedish forests, and Danish coastal towns, with chapters on local customs, fisheries, peasant life, and the political relations between the three kingdoms after the Napoleonic settlement. The book helped launch Inglis’s reputation as a leading travel writer of the 1830s. The Scandinavian volumes were reprinted across the 1830s and 1840s. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
