About this book
Uniform of a Man is by Dave Dryfoos. The blurb says that after rescue, revenge was uppermost in Chet Barfield's mind, and that his rescuers seemed to disagree. In the village clearing, under the diffuse red sun of Hedlot, Chet Barfield listens intently and hears the swish-roar-scream of a spaceship, and the text says "Rescue was at hand for him".
Chet is chained to a post while the village boys chant derisively, and the text says he "swore" that he would make these devils suffer as he had suffered. Chet passes through a forest "overgrown with menace" where every whispered cry, wild grunt and muttered growl is completely unfamiliar to him, and he fears them all. Chet, hotly incredulous, asks "To risk your life for a few stray facts?" and Dr. Pine says that "Risks in research are commonplace".
