About this book
Ancient Man in Britain describes rough but serviceable pottery manufactured for cooking food, storing grain, nuts and berries, and carrying water. The account describes houses made from wattles interwoven between wooden beams and plastered with clay, and from turf and stones, and says they were no doubt thatched. Underground dwellings are described as food stores and winter retreats, compared with the dug-outs made during the recent war.
The discussion of textiles argues that flax cultivation leaves little doubt that comfortable under-garments were worn by at least some of the Stone Age people. The discussion of the Druids describes their belief that after death a soul passed between individuals, or entered plants or animals before returning to a human being at birth.
