About this book
Betty buys an over-blouse and asks that a blue one be kept for her friend, who may come to the shop herself. Ida Bellethorne is less happily placed than the girls Betty Gordon knows, and the English girl's secretive disposition keeps her story untold among strangers.
A stalled train sits beneath steadily falling snow, with wind piling snow over the roofs of the cars. Ida faces the prospect that her aunt will doubtless sail if the English girl cannot reach the dock in time, leaving her uncertain when she could find her only living relative. The account explains that keeping the head engine's boiler hot supplies the cars with heat and hot water.
