About this book
Bunyan Characters, First Series, is presented as lectures delivered in St. George’s Free Church Edinburgh by Alexander Whyte. The introductory section says the word character occurs only once in the New Testament, in the passage in the prologue of the Epistle to the Hebrews. The text says John Gifford has been immortalised by John Bunyan, both in his Grace Abounding and in his Pilgrim’s Progress.
Christian tells Timorous and Mistrust that to go back is nothing but death, while to go forward is fear of death and everlasting life beyond it. A dying man calls a young minister back to his bedside and tells him to prepare for the pulpit above everything else.
