About this book
Chats on Military Curios is by Stanley C. Johnson. The text says Henry VIII decided to clothe some, at least, of his soldiers in distinctive uniforms and selected white coats emblazoned with the red cross of St. George. The text says that with the decline of armour, retainers went into battle robed in the cloth liveries of their masters, whilst the mercenaries wore the usual dress of civilians.
The text says that, the application having come before Mr. Bunbury, he not only signed the pass, but drew a comical sketch on the permit. The text says that in 1778 political relations between England and America were very strained, in consequence of which militia camps were formed in various parts of the country. A list of illustrations names, among others, an old mug bearing the famous picture depicting The Death of Wolfe, and a post-card received from a soldier in France bearing stereotyped greetings.
