About this book
The regimental records set out uniforms, badges, nicknames and notes on service, including a red uniform with deep yellow facings and a yellow-striped tartan. The description of regimental devices places a sphinx and a royal tiger in the upper and lower divisions of a cross, respectively. The uniform entries in another record distinguish scarlet clothing with tawny, green and white facings at different dates, giving white as the present colour.
The account of a castle's defence says that bricks and stones were thrown after ammunition ran out and, according to the story, buttons served as bullets. The nickname Springers is attributed by tradition to a regiment's employment as a light battalion during the American War in 1777.
