About this book
Edelweiss is credited to Berthold Auerbach. The text describes a tall, slender young man who walks behind an older man, with crape on his hat and on the sleeve of his long blue coat. The young man addresses the older man as Uncle and says that the way is long and he would rather go home alone.
Annele sits by Lenz's side in the morning and expresses her delight in a hundred different ways. Lenz, looking up at his mother's picture, calls her our angel of rest. A fearful pounding begins overhead and a character named Petrovitsch cries that they are lost; the roof of the sleeping-room had been broken in, so that the door refused to open.
