About this book

Hoodie is by Mrs. Molesworth, with illustrations by Lewis Baumer, and was published in London and Edinburgh in 1897. Its twelve chapters run from At War with the World to Hoodie Awakes, and other titles include Hoodie Goes in Search of a Grandmother, Maudie's Godmother, The Chintz Curtains, The Golden Cage and Hoodie's Disobedience.

In one passage Hoodie, a small girl with red eyes and tangled hair, scowls while her mother asks her to come to her room, and her sister Maudie and a person called Martin go on with the reading. Hoodie comes back announcing in baby talk that she is going to be good. In another passage Cousin Magdalen says a fire may be lit in the billiard-room, and the four children go there while she works at a large canvas on a frame.
