About this book

Inaugural Presidential Address, Official Transcript, by Barack Obama, contains his two inaugural addresses, Tuesday, January 20, 2009 and Monday, January 21, 2013. The speaker of the address of Tuesday, January 20, 2009 says he stands there humbled by the task before them. The speaker says that the challenges are real, serious and many and will not be met easily or in a short span of time, but that they will be met.

The speaker says the nation is at war and the economy is badly weakened, and that homes have been lost, jobs shed and businesses shuttered. The text of the address of Monday, January 21, 2013 is headed by a greeting to Vice President Biden, Mr. Chief Justice, members of the United States Congress, distinguished guests. The speaker says that decisions are upon them and they cannot afford delay, and that they cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate.

Barack Obama

Obama wrote Dreams from My Father in 1995, after being elected the first Black president of the Harvard Law Review and long before any national office, and it is a memoir about an absent Kenyan father, a white mother from Kansas, and the work of assembling one identity out of Hawaii, Indonesia and the South Side of Chicago.
