About this book

James Tufts: A Memorial gathers tributes connected with the family of James Hayden Tufts (1862-1942), the American philosopher who built the University of Chicago's philosophy department alongside John Dewey and co-wrote their landmark 1908 Ethics. Memorial volumes of this kind preserve the careers and characters of New England's academic families as their colleagues wished them remembered. The Tufts-Dewey collaboration helped define pragmatist ethics for a generation.
