About this book
Life of a Pioneer carries the subtitle Being the Autobiography of James S. Brown. The preface says the life of a pioneer in Western America always is full of peril and hardship, and often has a large share of startling episodes and thrilling adventures. The contents pages include, among others, the entries Meet chief Washakie, Hold a Council and Present the Book of Mormon.
The text says daylight came and the village was all alive with people, as in America on the Fourth of July, at a barbecue. The provisions at a feast were apportioned to each village according to its numbers, the text says, and subdivided among the families.
