About this book

Local option in Loco-Land is by W. C. Tuttle. A proclamation tacked to a tree beside the trail reads: vote for Lindhardt Cadwallader Sims for sheriff and defeat the demon rum. The narrator and a man called Dirty Shirt halt their burros and peer at the proclamation.

A man called Testament says that the listeners had better get used to drinking water, because they are going to hang padlocks on all the grog-shops of this here county. A man called Fog-Horn asks for all in favor to say aye, and everybody yelps aye; asked for the contrary, everybody yelps no. The Rev. Parsley offers to recite Lips that Touch Liquor.
