About this book

Marjorie Daw is by Thomas Bailey Aldrich, and its contents list runs from I. to XVI. One letter, from Dr. Dillon to Edward Delaney at The Pines, near Rye, N.H., dated August 8, 1872, says that Flemming will be confined to the sofa for three or four weeks, and will have to be careful at first how he uses his leg. A different letter, from Edward Delaney to John Flemming in West 38th Street, New York, dated August 9, 1872, says he had a line from Dillon that morning and was rejoiced to learn that the hurt is not so bad as reported.

The text includes the line "I wonder, Ned, you don’t fall in love with Miss Daw. I am ripe to do it myself." A section headed XV. THE ARRIVAL, set on the second day of September, 1872, has the down express, due at 3.40, leaving the station at Hampton, and a young man leaning on the shoulder of a servant whom he addressed as Watkins.
