About this book
Monarch, the Big Bear of Tallac is a book with 100 drawings by Ernest Thompson Seton. The dedication is to the memory of the days in Tallac's Pines, where by the fire a speaker heard this epic tale. The dedication adds that rough men of the hills told the tale in broken bits, a sentence at a time.
Lan Kellyan has keen gray eyes, and hunter is written on his leathern garb, on his tawny face, on his lithe and sinewy form. Lan rides his hunting pony on the trail and sees an old Grizzly with her two cubs. In one scene the roaring of the flame is like a hurricane, and a huge pine tree comes crashing down across the pool, barely missing the man. The Monarch is held in a cage; free in it, he heaves his powers against the triple angling steel and wrenches the cage so not a part of it is square.
