About this book

Rolf in the Woods is by Ernest Thompson Seton. The contents list chapters titled The Wigwam Under the Rock, Rolf Catches a Coon and Finds a Friend and Where the Bow Is Better Than the Gun. A raccoon is dumped out of a sack with the dog held at a little distance until the coon began to run, and the text says Skookum's first lesson was learned.

Quonab, armed with a forked stick and a cord noose, goes up the tree, and after much trouble gets the noose around the coon's neck. Rolf tells the simple, straight story of their acquaintance with Hoag to a shrewd and kindly old hunter, trader, mill-owner and magistrate, who says he knows the story is the truth. In an exchange of news, one voice says that MacDonough has won on the Lake but Plattsburg is taken, and the next answers that Plattsburgh is safe and MacDonough has captured the fleet. A speaker says that the women have met here and prayed together every day, morning and night.
