My Reminiscences
Looking back from middle age, Tagore gathers the scattered impressions of his childhood in the large, cultured household of the Tagores in Calcutta, and the slow awakening of the poet within him. He writes less as a chronicler of events than as an artist sifting memory for the moments that shaped his imagination: servants and schoolrooms, the changing seasons of the family garden, early experiments in verse, and the sudden openings of feeling that fed his later work. First published in Bengali in 1912 as Jibansmriti, this is an intimate, unhurried self-portrait rather than a formal life story.
