About this book

Norway by Sigvart Sörensen has chapters on, among others, the birth of Haakon the Good and Erik Blood-Axe, 930-935, and the youth of Olaf Trygvason. The text says Harald the Fairhaired was nearly seventy years old when he begat a son by Thora Moster-stang (Moster-pole). Earl Haakon is said to have been fifty-eight years old at his death, in February, 995.

Trygve’s widow Astrid fled with her foster-father, Thorolf Lusarskeg, and gave birth to a boy whom she called Olaf, after his grandfather. The text says a bathing-house of cut stone, into which the water was led from a neighboring geyser, was called Snorrelaug (Snorre’s bath), and that ruins of it are still to be seen. The text says that each Thing shall hold its sessions separately and appoint its own President and Secretary, and that neither Thing shall be in session unless two-thirds of its members are present.
