About this book
On Chloroform and Other Anæsthetics, by John Snow, is subtitled Their Action and Administration. The book names Benjamin W. Richardson as editor, with a memoir of the author. The preface calls the book the legacy to science of Dr. John Snow and says the completion of the work was his last act and deed.
The writer reports giving amylene in twenty-four cases of tooth-drawing. The writer says the writer is inclined to think that chloroform and ether are better agents to employ in those instances where relaxation of the voluntary muscular system is required. The text says the patients most subject to faintness after chloroform are those who are subject to this affection at other times, being often persons in a state of anæmia, or having the symptoms of fatty degeneration of the heart. The text says it is a great advantage of chloroform that the delirium may be subdued in a few minutes by it, and can be kept away till opium takes effect.
