About this book
Peeps at Many Lands: Norway is an illustrated book about the country by Lieut.-Col. A. F. Mockler-Ferryman. The title page promises twelve full-page colour illustrations by A. Heaton Cooper and Nico Jungman, and gives London, 1911, with a first publication in September 1909.
Sixteen chapters run from The Land of the Vikings and Modern Norway through Manners and Customs, Some Fairy Tales, The Hardanger Fjord, Wild Nature, Driving in Norway, Laplanders at Home and Winter in Christiania. In one passage St. Olaf's lance is said to be still seen by the altar in Trondhjem Cathedral. Another describes a high plateau of lakes and snowfields where an Arctic fox barks and a golden plover calls, and a third follows ski jumpers leaping one after another while a crowd looks on.
