About this book
Poems of Coleridge is selected and arranged, with an introduction and notes, by Arthur Symons. The contents list The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Christabel, Kubla Khan, Frost at Midnight, The Nightingale and The Eolian Harp. The introduction quotes Mr. Ernest Coleridge as saying that a work which should contain all knowledge and proclaim all philosophy had been Coleridge's dream from the beginning.
The introduction notes that only a few months before his death, he was writing to John Sterling of preparing, with the help of Sterling and Mr. Green, his whole system for the press. A poem in the book says that all must swear, in college and wharf, council and justice-court, from the briber and the bribed to merchant and lawyer, senator and priest. A passage describes someone who despiseth the creatures of the calm and envieth that they should live, and so many lie dead.
