About this book
Rhymes a la Mode is a book by Andrew Lang. A prefatory note says that many of these verses have appeared in periodicals, English or American, and some were published in an American collection called Ballades and Verses Vain. The contents list includes, among others, The Fortunate Islands, Ballade of Middle Age and Ballade of Cricket.
One poem tells of a barque that "had thought for helm and sail, And one mist wreath for canopy". A verse about a Book-man’s Paradise says that the cropping crew that dock a volume’s honest size never come there. A note says that the vision of a Paradise of learned lovers and poets constantly recurs in the poetry of Joachim du Bellay, and of Ronsard.
