About this book
Songs for Parents, by John Chipman Farrar, includes a dedication with a rhyme for Barbara, a rhyme for smiling Ted, one for Wink and a couple of verses for Dick. The contents list groups its titles under the headings Songs of Desire, Songs for Out of Doors, Songs of Circumstance and Songs for a Christmas Tree. In the piece titled Summer Explorer the speaker says, "I'd like to be a gypsy With gold rings in my ears."
The piece titled Spring Wish has its speaker wish to be a frog, sunning and stretching on a log. A piece titled Dreams has a speaker who would like to dream their own dreams instead of those the silly sandman brings along like moving picture shows. The piece titled Choice says that if the speaker had just one penny on the Fourth of July, it would be a problem to think what to buy.
